Other countries that have civil partnerships.
Denmark was the first country to introduce civil partnership status back in 1989.
There are now many more countries which also offer some type of civil partnership registration.
These include: France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Canada (Quebec, Nova Scotia), USA (Vermont, Connecticut). Out of these countries, only the Netherlands and Belgium have legislated to allow what are legally considered to be gay marriages.
